6 candidates submitted their declaration of candidacy by the 5:00 p.m August 15, 2003 deadline. Since there a 3 seats to be filled in this election, no primary will be necessary. The General Election will Tuesday November 4.

Service Opportunities Available

Volunteers are needed to serve on several city committees. If you are willing to serve on any of the following committees, please complete a Statement of Interest form which may be obtained either from the City’s web site: www.centervilleut.net, at City Hall, or by calling Marilyn or Marsha at 295-3477 or by sending an e-mail message to marilynh@centervilleut.com to request a form be mailed to you.
Below is a list of committees that will have openings within the year and a description of each:
The Centerville Historic Sites Committee consists of seven members and meets on a monthly basis. Committee members help with various projects preserving the history of the city. The Committee helps plan and direct the activities scheduled during the annual Historic Preservation Week each May. Committee terms are for two years, and appointment is made by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council.
The Parks and Recreation Committee consists of seven members who act as an advisory body to the City Council by providing support, guidance and planning for parks, recreation and shade tree programs. The Committee also helps with the 4th of July festivities. Terms of appointment are from one to three years and the committee meets on an as-needed basis.
The Planning Commission is a seven-member board who assist the local elected officials in developing the goals, policies and programs for future development of the local neighborhoods and community. They set goals and objectives for a community’s future physical development and help the community attain its goals by developing and maintaining planning and land management regulations. Members of the Planning Commission serve without compensation, except for reasonable expenses incurred in performing their duties as members of the Commission. Terms are for three years, and a commissioner may be reappointed for a second term by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. The Planning Commission meets twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and as such other times as the Planning Commission may determine.
