Centerville City, in partnership with Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District and Ace Disposal, is offering a recycling program for curbside collection of green yard waste. In order to implement this program, we need a minimum of 760 of our residents to participate; therefore, we want to help you understand the benefits of recycling green yard waste.
WHAT IS GREEN YARD WASTE? GRASS CLIPPINGS,WEEDS, SHRUB PRUNINGS, LEAVES STICKS (cut to fit), FRUIT OTHER PLANT MATERIALS,& VEGETABLE SCRAPS,
Q WHY RECYCLE YARD TRIMMINGS
A: These materials are relatively clean and biodegradable; disposal in landfills may be unnecessary and wastes precious space. In addition, as yard trimmings decompose in landfills, they generate methane gas. Specifically, for us here in Davis County, burning grass clippings that are high in moisture content reduces the efficiency of our burn plant. Recycling our green waste will improve the performance of the energy recovery facility (incinerator) and could significantly extend the life of our landfill. At some point in the future when the landfill is closed the county will need to transport our waste long distance at a significantly increased cost. : WHY IS RECYCLING GREEN WASTE UP-CYCLING?
Q: Why is Recyclig
A:when something with no value is turned into a valuable product like compost or mulch. Green waste recycling will help to keep disposal fees and long-term costs under control. Those who choose to participate will receive an additional, specially marked, green gO-galion automated container. The can will be picked up weekly and the green waste will be delivered to the recycling facility at Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District where it will be processed into mulch or compost. During the winter months, when the container isn't being used for green waste, the container can be used for household waste. This would allow for the container to be used year round. . The current charge for an additional black waste container is $8.50 per month. If you are a resident that has multiple black waste containers, you may exchange a black container for a green waste recycling container and save $3.00 per month on your utility bill.
