Minutes of the February 4, 2010 Trails Committee meeting minutes were reviewed. Chair Denise Cox made a motion to approve the minutes as amended. Shari Meyer seconded the motion, which was passed by unanimous vote (6-0).
ADOPT-A-TRAIL/TRAIL CHIEF UPDATE
Chair Denise Cox reported she received a letter from George Chipman, Farmington’s Trails Committee Chairman, which she distributed to Committee members. The letter describes the duties of the Farmington Trail Chiefs, which the Centerville Trails Committee agreed to adopt for their Committee. Mr. Chipman will be invited to the next Trails Committee meeting to talk about the functions of the Farmington Trail Chiefs. Advertising for Trail Chiefs will also be discussed at the next meeting.
FAMILY FUN 5K RIDE – BICYCLE EVENT PREPARATION
Chair Cox reported the Family Fun 5K Bike Ride planned for May 22nd cannot be held, as Reading Elementary is having a “fun run” on that same date, which could cause problems on the north end of 400 West. The Committee agreed to have the Family Fun 5K bike ride on Saturday, May 8th at 9:00 a.m. Chair Cox has talked with Dairy Queen, and they agreed to provide ice cream cone coupons, and the use of their parking area for this event. There is an LDS Church on 400 West and 700 North that might be available for parking also.
Officer Lister told Denise that he will verify if the Police Department will be available to provide bike safety training at this event. Chair Cox will talk with Lisa Summers about advertising this event in the recreation flyers that are given to the elementary schools, and a banner will be displayed in front of Founders Park.
ROYCE ALLEN – BOOK REGARDING TRAILS IN CENTERVILLE
Royce Allen gave each Committee member a CD related to his book “Tales, Trails and Sites of the Centerville Mountains” that shows an aerial photograph of the mountains of Centerville, along with 450 photographs taken in the mountains. Mr. Allen displayed the book that he is hoping to have published by December 2010. After discussion, the Trails Committee said they will consider endorsing the publishing of the book. Sherri Lindstrom, City Council Liaison, also suggested that small pamphlets of the highlights of the book be published for people who do not want to purchase the entire book. Mr. Allen will give a CD and a copy of the book to Steve Thacker for his review.
