CITY HALL EXPANSION PROJECT
James Glascock, Architect, showed the preliminary plan drawings for the City Hall expansion project. Additional space for police evidence storage as well as other departments has been greatly needed for some time. Mr. Glascock has come up with a plan to build an addition to the southeast corner of City Hall and complete subsequent remodeling in phases that will allow the affected departments to continue to work uninterrupted while the construction is in progress. He provided the Council with a preliminary building and site construction cost estimate for the project. Mr. Glascock suggests going out to bid for the project early in 2009, and because of the recent construction slump, he anticipates very favorable bids.
Mr. Glascock and the Council discussed the phasing plan and priority list for this project. He responded to questions and comments from the Council regarding space layout and use, as well as outside architectural finishes and aesthetics. The Council was provided with a summary of the preliminary building and site construction cost estimates. The City Manager is recommending the Council approve certain phases of the project that will fit into the available budget of $800,000 in the General Fund. The pump house upgrade will be funded out of the Water Fund. Mr. Glascock and key staff members will meet again to discuss alternatives within the current plans that were mentioned during the work session that may better meet the needs of the Police Department. The Council agreed with Mr. Glascock's phasing proposal and directed staff to report back with any new updates or information.
At 6:55 p.m. the meeting was adjourned.
