CONSIDER REMOVAL OF CABINETS AND APPLIANCES FROM THE KITCHEN BY LANDEN CARLSON AS HIS EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT
Chair Paul Thomas Smith reported he talked with his cousin, Richard Carlson, who is in the business of restoring old homes about the Whitaker Museum restoration project. Mr. Carlson asked if his son could tear down the kitchen as part of his Eagle Scout project. The Committee discussed this proposal and agreed to allow Landen Carlson to do this project, as long as his father supervises the Boy Scouts. Mr. Smith said it is anticipated there will be five Boy Scouts involved in the project. Melissa Hogan, Museum Director, reported the cabinets are St. Charles circa 1920-1930 period cabinets, but it is not known what their value would be on e-bay. The Committee discussed the possibility of allowing Mr. Carlson to keep the cabinets in turn for doing restoration work at the Museum.
Richard Henrichsen made a motion to recommend that the removal of the Whitaker Museum kitchen cabinets be completed by Landen Carlson for his Eagle Scout project. Chair Smith seconded the motion, which was passed by unanimous vote (3-0).
INSPECTION OF UPSTAIRS MASTER BEDROOM, WORK ROOM AND BATHROOM TO VIEW WORK ACCOMPLISHED BY RICHARD HENRICHSEN, MELISSA HOGAN AND PAUL SMITH
The Whitaker Museum Board toured the upper floor of the Museum to view the work that has been completed by members of the Board as part of the renovation project. Grace Marsden and Metta Barnes scraped wallpaper in the master bedroom, and Melissa Hogan has been removing insulation from the bathroom. The Board noted the roof leakage that is taking place that is causing the support beams to deteriorate, and it was agreed that replacing the roof with cedar shingles is a top priority. Melissa Hogan reported there is a $7,000 grant that has been received that must be used by July 2009 for the roof, or the money must be returned. Chair Smith said he will contact Steve Thacker about the roof.
Richard Henrichsen made a motion to have Chair Smith contact Steve Thacker at the City concerning the reroofing of the Whitaker Museum as a top priority. Chair Smith seconded the motion, which was passed by unanimous vote (3-0).
The Board discussed the kitchen appliances, and Melissa Hogan said the City has agreed to remove and dispose of them. The water to the Museum has been shut-off permanently. Melissa Hogan reported that $50 worth of items have been sold from the Museum as of this date.
OTHER ITEMS OF BUSINESS
Richard Henrichsen reported the City Council will be discussing the Whitaker Museum at their May 5, 2009 City Council meeting. There will be a work session at 5:00 p.m. prior to their 7:00 p.m. meeting to discuss the Whitaker Museum Policy and Procedures Manual. The City Council will vote on the manual in their regular meeting to make it part of the City ordinance.
