JOB SHADOWING
The Youth Council would like to have a monthly opportunity to find out more about city government and the role certain positions play in the day-to-day operation of Centerville City, by having the Mayor and other City officials attend some of their meetings. The Council and staff were open to starting this type of program and supporting the Youth Council. The Youth Council will also discuss in the future whether to start a job shadowing program.
ISSUES CURRENTLY FACING CENTERVILLE AND/OR STATE OF UTAH
The Youth Council Mayor recently met with the City Manager to discuss some current issues Centerville City is involved with, including hillside land issues, park expansion and firearms ordinance review/revision, CERT training exercise, etc. The Youth Council noted some items of interest and were willing to help and/or participate where needed.
REPRESENTING THE YOUTH OF CENTERVILLE
Youth Mayor Bryson updated the Council on current ways the Youth Council is advertising and encouraging youth participation in the City i.e., the creation of a new Facebook page and recommends a Youth Council webpage link from the City website.
ECONOMICS OF CENTERVILLE CITY
The Youth Council expressed an interest in learning how Centerville City is funded and how the programs within the city are budgeted. On September 16th the Council will receive a financial report for the current fiscal year and a summary of the last fiscal year. The Youth Council is invited to attend this meeting to help them understand how the City is doing financially.
MISCELLANEOUS
Lisa Summers, Youth Council Advisor, asked the City Council to suggest ways the Youth Council could help with any outreach or service where volunteer help is needed. The Council discussed possible ideas and ways the Youth Council can help with various projects within the city. Some of the ideas discussed were: fundraising for the new theater; help with renovations at the Whitaker Museum; assistance with 4th of July festivities; and emergency response exercises. Council members also urged the Youth Council to come up with ideas and activities that can involve their peers. The City Council and City Manager commended the Youth Council for their enthusiasm and willingness to serve the community. They also reminded the Youth Council that there are various committees and other areas where they can continue to serve Centerville City once they have completed their time on the Youth City Council.
