Fireworks Prohibition for Portions of Centerville
Thursday, July 03, 2003 - 11:36 AM

The Davis County Fire Marshall has placed a prohibition on the use of fireworks in Centerville; East of Rolling Hills Drive, East of Oak Ridge Drive, and East of Island View Drive.

The Davis County Fire Marshall has issued this prohibition due to the extremely dangersous fire conditions existing in Davis County.  The prohibition is in effect from July 1, 2003 to August 1, 2003.   As a reminder, any open fires are prohibited between Highway 89 and the Bonneville Shoreline Watermark from April 1 to October 31.  Violation of these restrictions may result in fines.  Fire fighting costs and property damage costs can be charged to persons resposible for starting fires.

Utah law allows only those 16 years or older to purchase fireworks. Fireworks can be purchased only after June 19 and before July 26, and can be discharged only during two specific holiday periods: from July 1 to July 7 and July 21 to July 27.  Also by law, fireworks cannot travel more than 15 feet into the air or 10 feet on the ground. Firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles and anything that shoots fireballs are prohibited.

For additional information call the South Davis Fire District, 295-1843, or the Davis County Fire Marshall, Sgt. Brian Law at 451-4129.
