National Do Not Call Registry

A new Consumer Protection Act was recently passed by Congress. You can either call toll free at 1-888-382-1222 or go online at http://www.donotcall.gov to register your telephone number so you do not receive unwanted sales calls.
When calling to register, you must call from the telephone you want registered. Beginning in September, telemarketers will have to check the list every three months to see you doesn’’t want to be called. The FTC will start enforcing the list October 1. Those solicitors who still call you can be fined up to $11,000 per occurrence by the government. The service will block about 80 percent of telemarketer calls. Calls from charities and non-profit groups are exempt from this list. If you have registered to be on the list and still receive calls from non-exempt telemarketers, you can register a complaint at the website listed above.
